Takoma Park Maryland Library

We are presenting a series of Fashion and Craft Workshops at the library.  Here is a post from one of my favorite blogs about race and fashion.  For the first program we made mood boards and paper dolls and used magazines and online fashion images (paper dolls, croquis, etc.) for the workshops and some of the images are problematic, of course.  Interestingly (depressingly?) the most popular images were white and thin.  Fashion is fun, but deeply problematic and has the power to injure.

Our next program will be on Sunday, October 27 at 2 and we will most likely be making accessories from paper and duct tape.

A very important message about lettering tattoos and the subjectivity of language!  I wish I had known this before I had a line of Auden’s poetry indelibly etched in my skin, now a bit smeared.

It’s OK if you don’t understand Russia.  The gist is that Russia loves cats and books so this makes a lot of sense.

I’m distracted by “can not.”
